The powerful and famous abbey was the focus of life in Bury St Edmunds for 500 years
It drew to its gates supporting trades, activities and all classes of people, from the prince to the pauper.
We trace the boundary of the abbey and bring into sharp focus life on the margins of this once great complex.
Circling the Abbey runs on Thursdays, from April to October. Tours start on Angel Hill, opposite the Abbey Gate, at 11.00am, and last 90 minutes. Tours are in English and are suitable for all ages and abilities. Please let us know beforehand if you have any special access requirements. We regret that we cannot accept dogs (apart from assistance dogs) on our tours.
Adults £7.50, U-18s £4, U-5s free, Family of four (max 2 adults) £20.
