Home 2021 Abbey Tours The Dark Side of the Abbey

The Dark Side of the Abbey

Throughout the 500 years of its existence the tranquility and calm of the abbey was often disrupted by its fair share of natural disasters, including fire, flood and plague

Combine all that with times of dissent and bloody violence and you have a rich story book of tales to bring to life as we examine the turbulent side of the Abbey’s history.

The Dark Side of the Abbey runs on Fridays from April to October. Tours start on Angel Hill, opposite the Abbey Gate, at 11.00am, and last 90 minutes. Tours are in English and are suitable for all ages and abilities. Please let us know beforehand if you have any special access requirements. We regret that we cannot accept dogs (apart from assistance dogs) on our tours.
